a woman jogging at 6mi/hr passes a man biking in the opposite direction at 12mi/hr. If they maintain their speeds, how far from each other will they be in 10 minuets after passing

    10 minutes of an hour is 1/6. So all you need to do is 6 divided by 6 and 12 divided by 6. You will get 1 and 2. Add them together because they are going away from each other to get 3 mi. You could alternatively see how far they would both go in an hour, or 12 + 6 = 18. Now do 18 divided by 6, because 10 is 1/6 of 60 to also get 3.
