2x + 5y = 34
x+2y = 14
Multiply the second equation by two to create like terms for one variable.
2 (x+2y = 14)
2x + 4y = 28
2x + 5y = 34
2x + 4y = 28 - - Subtract.
y = 34.28 = 6
Solve for x
x + 2 (6) = 14
x + 12 = 14
x = 2
Check:
2 + 2 (6) = 14
2 + 12 = 14
14 = 14
