The value of x is 18,000.

Guy's pay : g (x) = 185 + 0.03x

Jim's pay : f (x) = 275 + 0.025x

for their weekly pay to be the same: Guy's pay is equal to Jim's pay.

185 + 0.03x = 275 + 0.025x

0.03x - 0.025x = 275 - 185

0.005x = 90

0.005x / 0.005 = 90 / 0.005

x = 18000

Guy's pay = Jim's pay

185 + 0.03 (18000) = 275 + 0.025 (18000)

185 + 540 = 275 + 450

725 = 725
