Before we add right away, we need a common denominator.
The denominator 12 can stay, as we change the 1/2. 2 goes into 12 6 times. So, multiply 1 and 2 by 6 to obtain the fraction 6/12.
Now we have 10/12 + 6/12.
Add the numerators, denominators stay the same.
Answer: 16/12 or 1 1/3
