When dividing which number goes first in the calculator?

Imagine it like a piece of chocolate amongst three people. The one u want to break into to share among the other is the first number.

so the number of chocolate pieces : by number of people

e. g: 6 pieces of chocolate : 3 people

6:2 = 3

however you can also divide the other way round. by dividing the smaller number first. this means u are diving a small amount to even smaller amounts.

2:4 = 1/2
