    If a solution exists we can say y=y so we can say:

    3x-2=-2x/5+1

    3x-2 = (-2x+5) / 5

    15x-10=-2x+5

    17x=15

    x=15/17, which makes y=-2x/5+1 become:

    y = (-2/5) (15/17) + 1

    y=-6/17+1

    y = (-6+17) / 17

    y=11/17

    So the solution to the system is:

    (15/17, 11/17)

    This is assuming that what you typed for the equations is what you meant ...

    y=-0.4x+1 and y=3x+2
