    Kate's age now is 30 years old and Jan's age now is 10 years old.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Kate age now is 3x

    Jan age now is x

    3x-6=6 * (x-6)

    3x-6=6x-36

    -3x - 3x

    -6=3x-36

    +36 + 36

    30=3x

    10=x

    x=10

    3x=30

    Kate's age now is 30 years old and Jan's age now is 10 years old.
