    Ok so plug 8 in for y so the equation equals - 2x+8x=30 then combine like terms so it equals 6x=30 then divide 30 by 6 to get x=5

    -2x + xy = 30 ... when y = 8

    -2x + 8x = 30

    6x = 30

    x = 30/6

    x = 5 <==
