The coffee shop is having a special where 2 pounds of coffee costs $4. Assume that the total cost in dollars "y" varies directly with the number of pounds of coffee "x". This can be represented by y=2x. How much will 2.5 pounds of coffee costs?

    The answer is $5 because

    y = $

    x = pounds of coffee

    and the first part was 2 lbs / $4 making it a pound / $2

    so replace the x with 2.5

    leaving it 5 = 2 X 2.5
