    (x, y) = (-3, 1)

    Step-by-step explanation:

    q1 3x + 4y = - 5

    q2 - 5x + y = 16

    from q2 y = 16 + 5x

    Put into q1

    3x + 4 (16 + 5x) = - 5

    3x + 64 + 20x = - 5

    3x + 20 x + 64 = - 5

    23x = - 5 - 64

    23x = - 69

    x = - 69/23

    x = - 3

    y = 16 + 5 (-3)

    y = 16 - 15

    y = 1

    (x, y) = (-3, 1)
