A supermarket sells fruit snacks by the box. Each box holds x packages of strawberry snacks and y packages of cherry snacks. Nina bought 6 boxes. Write two expressions for how many more strawberry packages than cherry packages Nina bought. Then, write what the two expressions being equivalent means in terms of the situation.

    The two equivalent expressions are 6 (x - y) and 6x - 6y. The first expression shows subtracting the number of packages of cherry snacks from the number of packages of strawberry snacks in each box and then multiplying the difference by the number of boxes. That's the same as finding the total number of cherry snacks and subtracting it from the total number of strawberry snacks, as shown in the second expression.
