    Area = 72 sq. cm

    length = x+6

    Width = x

    l*b = Area

    (x+6) x = 72

    x2 + 6x=72

    x2+6x-72=0

    x2+12x-6x-72=0

    x (x+12) - 6 (x+12) = 0

    (x+12) (x-6) = 0

    x=-12, x=6

    since width can't be negative, the answer is x=6.

    therefore, the width is 6cm
