    41 = g + b

    g = girls

    b = boys

    To find g, we need to do b - 9

    So, 41 = (b - 9) + b

    41 = 2b - 9

    Add 9 to both sides

    50 = 2b

    Divide both sides by 2

    25 = b

    So, there are 25 boys

    25 - 9 = 16

    So, there are 16 girls.

    16 + 25 = 41

    There are 25 boys and 16 girls in the class.
