A 12-inch ruler is divided into three parts. The largest part is three times as a long as the smallest. The middle-sized part is twice as long as the smallest. How long is the smallest part?

    lets take x as the smallest part

    then the largest part=3x

    the middle sized part=2x

    x+2x+3x=12

    6x=12

    x=12/6

    x=2

    therefore the smallest part is equal to 2
