Length of an actual covered hopper car = 54 feet

    We already know that

    1 feet = 12 inches

    Then

Length of an actual covered hopper car = (54 * 12) inches

    = 648 inches

Length of a covered hopper car in a model train set = 4.05 inches

So the ratio of actual covered

hopper car to the length of a model covered hopper car is = 648:4.05

    = 216: 1.35

    = 24:0.15

    = 8:0.05

It can be seen from the above deduction that the ratio of the length of the actual hopper car to the length of the model covered hopper car is 8:0.05.
