Which is a correct first step for solving this equation - 3x+2-5x-7=4x+2

    Your first step should be to separate the x's and the numbers.

    This is how I would do it:

    -3x+2-5x-7=4x+2

    -3x-5x-4x=2-2+7

    -12x=7

    x=-7/12
