The eight in the first one is larger than the eight in the second one

In the first one, it is in the one's place in front of the decimal, meaning it's a whole number. In the second one, it is in the tenths place behind the decimal meaning it is not a whole number. Notice how I made the "th" in tenths bold. A lot of people think that it is tens place.
