First, simplify the problem in the parenthesis. 14-5=9. Then the 2^3: (2) (2) = 4 (2) = 8 You've got 9/8 (4) which is 36/8. That simpifes to 9/4

= 4 (14-5/8)
= 4 (14-0.625)
= 4 (13.375)
= 53.3
