A generator runs for 2 1/2 hand uses 4 3/8 gals of fuel. How many gallons of fuel did the generator use each hour?

    divide gallons used by time

    4 3/8 = 35/8

    2 1/2 = 5/2

    35/8 / 5/2 = 35/8 * 2/5 = 70/40 = 7/4 (simplest form) = 1 3/4 gallons per hour
