weight of pears sold = 4.08 kg

    Step-by-step explanation:

total weight of apples and pears = 6.8 kg

2/5 of this weight = apples

this means that if the total weight (6.8 kg) were divided into 5 parts, apples take 2 out of the 5 parts:

∴ weight of apples = 2/5 of total weight

    weight of apples 2/5 * 6.8 = 2.72 kg

Therefore apples weigh a total of 2.72 kg

Therefore, since weight of apples + weight of pears = 6.8 kg

    2.72 + weight of pears = 6.8

    weight of pears = 6.8 - 2.72 = 4.08 kg
