One number is six less than a second number. The sum of twice the larger number and six times the smaller number is 28. Find the two numbers.

    first number = x-6

    second number = x

    2 (x) + 6 (x-6) = 28

    2x + 6x - 36 = 28

    8x = 28+36

    8x = 64

    divide both sides by 8.

    x = 8.
