    We can write this out with the following, if kids who went on the bus is x and kids who went with their parents is y.

    x + y = 120

    we know that y = 10, since 10 kids went with their parents.

    plug this in to the original equation

    x + 10 = 120

    x = 110.

    since there are two charter buses, divide 110 by 2.

    There were 55 students on each charter bus.
