    Let x is the bond pay 2% and y is the pay 6.5%

    x + y = 49,000 so x = 49,000 - y

    0.02x + 0.065y = 2,510

    substitute x = 49,000 - y into 0.02x + 0.065y = 2,510

    0.02x + 0.065y = 2,510

    0.02 (49,000 - y) + 0.065y = 2,510

    980 - 0.02y + 0.065y = 2,510

    0.045y = 1,530

    y = 34,000

    x = 49,000 - y = 49,000 - 34,000 = 15,000

    answer

    invested $34,000 in the bond that pays 6.5% rate and $15,000 in bond that pays 2% rate
