    the best way to do this is to try and solve for your x variable and see what happens.

    6x + 16 = - 22 + 6x ... subtract 6x and notice that your x's cancel out. if your variables cancel out, this means that there are no real solutions:

    16 = - 22 ... is your result. this is NOT true, which means there is no solution this this equation. your answer is A.
