    Hello,

    (x-3) ²+2 (x-3) - 8=0

    x²-6x+9+2x-6-8=0

    x²-4x-5=0

    ∆=b²-4ac = (4) ²-4 (-5) (1) = 16+20=36

    x₁,₂=-b±√∆/2a=4±6/2

    x₁=4-6/2=-2/2=-1

    x₂=4+6/2=10/2=5

    Therefore the solutions are

    x=-1 and x=5

    Expand and simplify

    (x-3) (x-3) + 2 (x-3) - 8=0

    (x-3+2) (x-3) - 8=0

    (x-1) (x-3) - 8=0

    x^2 - 4x + 3-8=0

    x^2 - 4x - 5=0

    x^2 - 5x + x-5=0

    x (x-5) + x-5=0

    (x+1) (x-5) = 0

    x = - 1, 5
