    60 ounce of water is needed for 12 ounces of cleaner

    Solution:

    Given that,

    A cleaning product is to be mixed at a proportion of 1 part cleaner to 5 parts water

    Therefore,

    cleaner : water = 1 : 5

    Let the part of cleaner needed be 1x

    Let the part of water needed be 5x

    How much water is needed for 12 ounces of cleaner

    1x = 12

    x = 12

    Therefore,

    Water needed = 5x = 5 (12) = 60

    Thus 60 ounce of water is needed for 12 ounces of cleaner
