Consider the equation log (3x-1) = log base 2 of 8. Describe the steps you would take to solve the equation, and state what 3x-1 is equal to.

    rewrite the equation as 10^log2 (8) = 3x-1

    10^3 = 3x-1

    1000 = 3x-1

    3x = 1001

    x = 1001/3

    x = 333.66 (repeating 6's)

    so 3x-1 = 1000
