    116*2=232

    and 232-836.5=604.5 and 604.5/6.5=93 so 93 salads were solo that day

    S = # of salads

    d = # of drinks

    $6.5s + $2d = $836.5

    s + d = 209

    1. Isolate a variable.

    s = 209-d

    2. Plug in.

    6.5 (209-d) + 2d = 836.5

    1358.5 - 6.5d + 2d = 836.5

    -4.5d = - 522

    d = 116

    s = 209 - 116 = 93
