    Speed from NY to LA is 172 mph

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the jet's speed from NY to LA be x mph. The speed form NY to LA would be (x-140) mph

    Mathematically, we know that distance = speed * time

    The total speed will x + x - 140 = 2x-140

    Now;

    12 (2x-140) = 2450

    24x - 1680 = 2450

    24x = 2450 + 1680

    24x = 4130

    x = 4130/24

    x = 172.1 which is approximately 172 mph
