    3 inch by 5 inch

    A = L * W ... A = 3 * 5 ... A = 15 inches^2

    if it is enlarged by a scale factor of 2 ...

    3 x 2 = 6

    5 x 2 = 10

    Area = L * W ... A = 6 * 10 ... A = 60 inches^2

    if reduces by a scale factor of 1/2 ...

    3 x 1/2 = 3/2 = 1.5

    5 x 1/2 = 5/2 = 2.5

    A = L * W ... A = 1.5 * 2/5 ... A = 3.75 inches^2
