    The rate of each hiker is 1 miles per hour and 3.2 miles per hour.

    Solution:

    Let the rate of the hiker 1 be 'x' and the rate of the hiker 2 be (x+2.2). We have to find out the rate of each hiker if they meet each other in 10 hours

    We know,

    Distance = speed * time.

    In the question it is given that the distance is 44 miles.

    Using the equation we will try to find out the rate of each hiker.

    44 = (x) 10 + (x+2.2) 10

    44 = 10x + 10x + 22

    44-22 = 20x

    20 = 20x

    x = 1

    Therefore the rate of hiker 1 = 1 miles per hour and the rate of hiker 2 = (1+2.2) = 3.2 miles per hour
