Two trains leave the station at the same time, one heading east and the other west. The eastbound train travels 16 miles per hour slower than the westbound train. If the two trains are 850 miles apart after 5 hours, what is the rate of the eastbound train?

    2x+2 (x-20) = 340

    2x+2x-40=340

    4x=380

    x=95 mph

    x-20=75 mph

    ans: the speed of the westbound train = 75 miles per hour
