The length of a rectangle is three times longer than its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 16 feet. If x represents the width of the rectangle, which equation can be used to find its value?

    L = 3x

    perimeter = 2 (l + w) = 2 (3x + x) = 2 (4x) = 8x = 16

    x = 16/8 = 2 feet

    l = 3x = 3 * 2 = 6 feet
