A friend decides that 4 (x+3) = 4x+3. explaine to your freind that 4 (x+3) = 4x+12

    It would be 4 (x+3) = 4x+12 because you are multiplying each number in the parenthesis by the outside number. Which is 4.

    4 * x = 4

    4 * 3 = 12
