Whe she was in year 8, sarah could run 800 metres in 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Three years later, when she was in year 11, she could run 800 metres in 2 minutes and 44 seconds. Find the percentage improvement in her time.

    8yr : 3min 20s=60s * 3 + 20s = 180s + 20s = 200s

    11yr : 2min 44s = 60s * 2 + 44s = 120s + 44s = 164s

    Counting:

    200s - 164s = 36s

    36s 18

    -- - = - - - = 18%

    200s. 100

    Check:

    200s * (100% - 18%) = 164s
