The expanded form of 1000 base 2 is ...
... 1*2³ + 0*2² + 0*2¹ + 0*2⁰
... = 8+0+0+0 = 8 (base 10)
The only thing that changes is the number base. The rest of the behavior of the place-value number system is the same as in base ten.
