How do you do explain how you know that the sum of 12.6 3.1 and 5.4 is greater than 20

    Round. 5 + 3 + 13 is 21

    Ignore the decimal parts for a minute, and add up the whole numbers in your head. (12+3+5) is 20 right there. So you know that when you add the decimal parts back in, it'll be more than 20 all together.
