    a^2+b^2=c^2

    a and b are legs

    c=hypotonuse

    legs=12 and 16

    subsitute

    12^2+16^2=c^2

    144+216=c^2

    400=c^2

    squareo root both sides

    20=c

    hypotonuse=20 cm
