    y=nx^2 has a parabolic graph that opens up and a vertex (minimum) of (0,0). This is an EVEN function, so the graph is symmetrical with respect to the y-axis.

    y=nx^3 can be negative, zero or positive; it passes through (0,0), but is not a vertex. This is an ODD function, and the graph is symmetrical with respect to the origin.
