    let the width of the strip x in meters

    we need to find the value of x

    Dimensions of the new lawn are given as

    (7+x) by (5+x)

    Area of the lawn is given as

    6.25m^2

    (7+x) (5+x) = 6.25

    35 + 12x + x^2 = 6.25

    x^2 + 12x+28.75 = 0

    In the above equation the values are given as

    a = 1, b=12, c=28.75

    put these values in quadratic equation and you will get the answer.
