    Either x = 1 or x = - 3/2

    Step-by-step explanation:

    = 2X^2 + x - 1 = 2

    = 2x^2 + x - 1 - 2 = 0

    = 2x^2 + x - 3 = 0

    now the above equation has become quadratic equation so we apply the quadratic formula which is:

    x = (-b ± √ b^ 2 - 4ac) / 2a

    here,

    a=2, b=1 and c=-3

    putting the values in the formula:

    x = (-1 ± √ (1) ^ 2 - 4 (2) (-3)) / 2 (2)

    x = (-1 ± √ (1) + 24)) / (4)

    x = (-1 ± √ 25) / (4)

    x = (-1 ± 5) / (4)

    now,

    Either: x = (-1 + 5) / (4) or: x = (-1 - 5) / (4)

    x = (4) / (4) x = (-6) / (4)

    x = 1 x = - 3/2

    Answer:Two solutions were found:

    x = (2-√20) / 8 = (1-√ 5) / 4 = - 0.309

    x = (2+√20) / 8 = (1+√ 5) / 4 = 0.809
