    A = L * W

    L = 2W - 4

    A = 70

    70 = W (2W - 4)

    70 = 2W^2 - 4W

    2w^2 - 4W - 70 = 0

    2 (W + 5) (W - 7) = 0

    W + 5 = 0

    W = - 5 ... extraneous solution ... does not work

    W - 7 = 0

    W = 7

    L = 2W - 4

    L = 2 (7) - 4

    L = 14 - 4

    L = 10

    so the length (L) = 10 inches and the width (W) = 7 inches
