Find the area of a rectangle whose length is 6 inches less than 5 times the width and whose perimeter is 8 inches more than twice the length

    You have l = 5w - 6; P = 8 + 2l; where l = the length of the rectangle; w = the width of the rectangle; P = the perimeter of the rectangle;

    P = 2l + 2w;

    Then, 2l + 2w = 8 + 2l;

    2w = 8;

    w = 4;

    l = 5*4 - 6;

    l = 14.
