    f (x) = 4x² + 5x - 6

    f (x - 1) = 4 (x - 1) ² + 5 (x - 1) - 6

    f (x - 1) = 4 (x - 1) (x - 1) + 5 (x) - 5 (1) - 6

    f (x - 1) = 4 (x (x - 1) - 1 (x - 1)) + 5x - 5 - 6

    f (x - 1) = 4 (x (x) - x (1) - 1 (x) + 1 (1)) + 5x - 11

    f (x - 1) = 4 (x² - x - x + 1) + 5x - 11

    f (x - 1) = 4 (x² - 2x + 1) + 5x - 11

    f (x - 1) = 4 (x²) - 4 (2x) + 4 (1) + 5x - 11

    f (x - 1) = 4x² - 8x + 4 + 5x - 11

    f (x - 1) = 4x² - 8x + 5x + 4 - 11

    f (x - 1) = 4x² - 3x - 7
