A rectangular pan has a length that is 4/3 the width. The total area of the pan is 432 in. 2. What is the width of the cake pan?

    the width of the cake pan can be found with the following formula

    area = W x L = 432 in. 2

    but L = 4/3W

    so we have

    area = W x 4/3W=4/3W² = 432 in. 2, and W² = (3/4) x 432 in. 2, and W=18 in
