    Let the total size of Pizza that they both have be given by P.

    P = (size of Mary Jane left over) + (size of Hector leftover)

    size of Mary Jane left over=3/8

    size of Hector leftover=2/8

    hence the total will be:

    P=3/8+2/8

    P = (3+2) / 8

    P=5/8

    therefore the fraction of remaining pizza that was left by both was 5/8

    The 2 pizzas are the same size (medium), so we only need to add the fractions: 3/8 + 2/8 = (3+2) / 8 = 5/8, or, there is a total of 5/8 of a medium pizza remaining.
