Since it says the length is 8 inches more than 2 times the width, that would be written as 2w+8. Since there are two side lengths in the rectangle, and two widths that add up to 70, you would use the following equation to find the dimensions: 2w+8+2w+8+w+w=70. When you combine like terms, you get 6w+16=70. From there you subtract the 16 from 70 to get 54, then divide that by 6 to end up with w=9. Now that you know that the width is 9, you can find the length by plugging 9 into 2w+8. The length is 26 inches.
