    X^2. + 3x - 10=0

    Using the quadratic formula for

    ax^2. + bx. + c=0

    X = {-b+_ sqrt [ (b^2) - 4ac]} / 2a

    X = (-3+7) / 2 = 4/2=2

    X = (-3-7) / 2 = - 10/2 = - 5

    Solutions are x=2 and x = - 5

    To complete the square, add the square of half the x-coefficient.

    ... x^2 + 3x + 2.25 = 12.25

    ... (x + 1.5) ^2 = 3.5^2

    ... x + 1.5 = ±3.5

    ... x = - 1.5 ±3.5

    ... x = - 5 or 2

    You can also solve this by factoring.

    ... x^2 + 3x - 10 = 0

    ... (x - 2) * (x + 5) = 0

    ... x = 2 or - 5
