If 6 is subtracted from a certain number and the difference is divided by 3, the result is 1 more than 16 of the original number. Find the original number.

    You would work from the bottom up. 16+1=17 Then 17*3=51. Then you would add 6 which would equal 57. And you could check the work by doing it in the original order. 57-6=51, 51/3 = 17. and 17 is 1 more than 16 so that should be right.
