    Since both equations are equal to y, set them equal to each other and solve.

    -7/8 x + 1/4 = - 3/4x + 1/2

    Multiply each term by the LCD 8.

    8 (-7/8) x+8 (1/4) = 8 (-3/4) x+8 (1/2)

    -7x + 2 = - 6x + 4

    Add 7x to both sides

    2 = x + 4

    Subtract 4 from both sides

    -2 = x

    Plug - 2 into one of the original equations and solve for y.

    y = (-3/4) (-2) + (1/2)

    y = (3/2) + (1/2)

    y = 2

    (-2, 2)
